Reading Furniture & Joinery builds architect-specified kitchens, wardrobes and joinery for some of the best homes on Sydney’s Northern Beaches. We’re a small team with one simple standard: get a little better on every single job — not just the furniture, but the way we plan it, the way we keep the client informed, and the way we finish. The role — and where it’s heading

Let’s be straight with you from day one: this is a genuine split role. You’ll run our installs on site, and you’ll also spend real hands-on time in our Brookvale workshop between jobs while we build up the install side of the business — especially over the first six months or so.

Where it’s going is the exciting part. As our install volume grows, this role builds toward full-time on-site work with an assistant installer under you — a true Installations Lead running the show. That’s not a “maybe one day” — it’s the strategy we’re actively working toward, and this role is how we get there.

What you’ll own

• Plan every install before it starts — read the shop drawings, check the site, sequence the work, and line up the crew, trades and gear so the day runs to a plan, not to luck.

• Keep the customer confidently in the loop — confirm the schedule, report progress, and flag any change before the client notices. No one is left wondering.

• Own the site — coordinate builders, painters, stone and other trades professionally, keep the site safe and tidy, and hold the RF&J standard from the first cabinet to the last.

• Land the finish — protect the work, close out the snag list, and complete a clean handover we’re proud to put our name on.

• Help us get better — you’ll be responsible for how installs run, and for helping us sharpen the systems behind them. Getting a little better every job is the job.

What you’ll bring

• You take ownership — you run the whole install and own the outcome, and you front up when something goes sideways rather than looking for someone to blame.

• You can plan an install from drawings — sequence it, resource it, and see the problems coming. (We’ll ask you to show us how.)

• You communicate well — with clients, your crew, and other trades — and you stay calm and solutions-focused when a job hits a snag.

• A solid handle on site WHS.

• An advantage: experience as a contract or piecework installer (1 year+). We find those installers plan tightly, know their own numbers, and don’t fluff around when there’s a problem — it’s a real plus, not a requirement.

• Trade-qualified (cabinetmaking / joinery) with 5+ years’ installation experience, ideally on high-end or more complex work.

• A Construction Induction Card (White Card) and a current NSW driver’s licence. First aid, working-at-heights or EWP tickets are a bonus.
